Rivian plans cheaper R3 and R4 electric vehicle models
Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe has announced plans to expand the company’s electric vehicle lineup with more affordable models, specifically the R3 and R4. Scaringe stated that the R3 crossover will be priced “materially lower” than the upcoming R2, with the subsequent R4 model intended to push entry prices even further down toward the mass market.
While specific pricing has not been finalized, Scaringe previously indicated that the R3 could enter the “mid to high 30s” price range. For the European market, this could potentially mean starting prices below 40,000 euros. The R2 is expected to serve as a bridge to these more affordable segments, with various configurations scheduled for release through 2027.
Production for the R3 is planned for Rivian’s Georgia factory, with manufacturing slated to begin in 2028. The R4 and R5 models are expected to be built on an entirely new platform that is still in the development stages.
