Rivian ramps up R2 SUV launch and lifts 2026 delivery outlook

Rivian officially launched its mid‑size R2 SUV in the United States on June 9, pricing the performance trim at $57,990 and pledging a lower‑cost Premium version later, with a base model aimed at $45,000 by the end of 2027. The company expects the R2 to boost annual deliveries to between 62,000 and 67,000 vehicles for 2025.

After a second‑quarter beat—12,194 vehicles delivered, well above the 9,000‑11,000 range—the automaker raised its full‑year 2026 delivery guidance to 65,000‑70,000 units, citing the start of R2 handovers and stronger demand for its trucks and commercial vans. The new range reflects a 3,000‑unit increase at each end of the previous forecast.

In parallel, Rivian adjusted its incentives for the flagship R1T pickup and R1S SUV, raising financing rates to 1.99%‑2.99% APR and increasing lease payments across all configurations, while eliminating the sub‑2% headline lease that had been offered earlier in the year. A $500 discount and existing package deals remain in place.

The combined rollout of the R2 and the revised financial terms aims to expand Rivian’s buyer pool, improve gross margins, and support the company’s production ramp‑up amid a U.S. market without a federal EV tax credit.
