Rivian recalls nearly 99,000 vehicles over camera visibility concerns

Rivian is conducting its largest U.S. passenger-vehicle recall by unit count, affecting 98,828 vehicles. The recall includes the R1S SUV (2022-2027 model years), the R1T pickup (2022-2026 model years), and the new R2 midsize SUV.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that a notification may obstruct the rearview camera image when the vehicle is in reverse, potentially reducing visibility and increasing crash risks. Rivian identified the issue during internal testing and has already deployed an over-the-air software update to resolve it. According to NHTSA filings, the fix has been installed on more than 95% of the affected vehicles. The company stated it is unaware of any accidents, injuries, or fatalities related to this issue.
