Rivian reports strong Q2 earnings and announces 2027 model updates

Rivian Automotive reported second-quarter financial results that exceeded Wall Street estimates for both revenue and profit. The electric vehicle manufacturer achieved a record gross profit of nearly $180 million, representing an 11% gross margin. Following these results, management raised full-year delivery guidance and narrowed its EBITDA loss expectations.

The company maintains a strong liquidity position, ending the second quarter with $5.3 billion in cash and cash equivalents. Total liquidity, including an asset-based revolving credit facility, reached $5.8 billion. Future liquidity is expected to increase through a $1 billion non-recourse loan from Volkswagen, a $250 million milestone-based investment from Uber Technologies, and a $4.5 billion Department of Energy loan intended for a new factory in Georgia.

Regarding its product lineup, Rivian announced updates for the 2027 model year of its flagship R1S SUV and R1T pickup. The updates include a simplified trim structure that replaces motor-count designations with names such as Premium and Performance. The R1S will offer an optional second-row captain’s chair configuration, while the R1T will receive new wheel and tire options. The R1 series continues to offer high-performance specifications, with the top-tier Quad configuration producing up to 1,025 horsepower.
