Rivian to integrate third-party AI agents and launch autonomy testing
Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe announced that the company’s future vehicle models may integrate third-party AI agents, such as Anthropic’s Claude, OpenAI’s products, or Meta’s Muse. Speaking at TechCrunch Disrupt, Scaringe noted that while Rivian has developed its own agent framework to handle tasks like climate control or news summaries, the next step involves connecting to frontier AI models through complex technical pipelines.
In a separate development regarding autonomous capabilities, Rivian is launching an invitation-only ‘Autonomy Early Access Program’ for its point-to-point driving feature. The program is restricted to US-based R1 Gen 2 and R2 owners who subscribe to Autonomy+. Participants must sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) and commit to weekly usage, data sharing, and feedback sessions. Rivian expects to launch point-to-point driving to this select group in late 2026, with a broader rollout planned for 2027.
