Riviera Maya hospitality sector sees resort expansions and model shifts
The hospitality landscape in Mexico’s Riviera Maya is undergoing significant changes. The Waldorf Astoria Riviera Maya has transitioned to a fully all-inclusive model as of October 1. The property, which holds a Michelin Key, is also scheduled to become an exclusively adults-only resort starting January 10, 2027.
Additionally, regional tourism infrastructure is expanding, highlighted by a US$700 million hotel expansion inaugurated in June 2025 that increased room capacity from 900 to 1,800. Regional occupancy figures for the period of January to July 2026 reached 70.71%.
