Regional updates: Sri Lankan justice calls, Indian election claims, and Malaysia Dengue vaccine study

In Sri Lanka, Kumar Jayakumaran of the Tamil National Alliance has called for a transparent and independent investigation into the Semmani mass graves. He emphasized that DNA testing must be used to identify human remains and provide closure to families, urging the international community to monitor the process to ensure justice without political interference.

Additionally, Kanapathi Kanagaraj has urged the Sri Lankan government not to extend plantation lease agreements without consulting the local community. He warned that extending leases for 22 plantation companies could lead to the loss of land rights and public spaces for residents.

In India, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar stated that elections are conducted with high transparency. He noted that since the introduction of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in 1996, only 41 cases regarding their integrity have been filed in the Supreme Court.

In Malaysia, Health Minister Sulkipli Ahmad announced that the government is conducting cost-benefit analyses to determine if a Japanese-made Dengue vaccine should be included in the national immunization program. This follows a significant rise in Dengue cases, with over 61,000 incidents and 58 deaths reported by late August 2026.
