Riyad Mahrez agrees to join Qatari club Al-Shamal SC

Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez has reached a verbal agreement to join Qatari club Al-Shamal SC. The 35-year-old former Manchester City and Leicester City star has been without a club since leaving Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli in July 2026.

The proposed contract is expected to be for one season, with an option for a one-year extension. Reports indicate the deal may include a specific clause allowing Mahrez to depart as early as January, providing him with significant flexibility. His salary is estimated to be around eight million dollars per year, a notable decrease from his earnings in Saudi Arabia.

Mahrez is expected to undergo a medical examination in Qatar early next week to finalize the transfer. At Al-Shamal, he will reunite with former Algerian national teammate Baghdad Bounedjah. The move aims to bolster Al-Shamal's squad for their participation in the AFC Champions League Elite competition.
