Riyad Mahrez to join Al Shamal SC after leaving Al Ahli

Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez is set to join Qatari club Al Shamal SC following the termination of his contract with Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli Saudi FC. Mahrez, 35, expressed his gratitude to the Al Ahli supporters on social media, stating he was “proud to have worn these colors” and thanking the staff and management for their support.

Al Ahli Saudi FC opted not to trigger an optional fourth year in Mahrez's contract, citing a need for different contributions at their level. Mahrez's move to Al Shamal SC will reunite him with former national teammate Baghdad Bounedjah.

In a notable coincidence, Mahrez's new club is scheduled to face his former club, Al Ahli Saudi FC, on November 23 at Al Bayt Stadium during the AFC Champions League group stage. Al Shamal SC expects Mahrez's extensive continental experience to bolster their campaign in the competition.
