Riyadh airport closure disrupts flights between Dhaka and Saudi Arabia
King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has suspended operations due to security concerns following an attack that resulted in one death and eleven injuries. The closure has caused significant disruption to international air travel, specifically affecting routes between Dhaka and Riyadh.
Multiple airlines, including Biman Bangladesh Airlines, US-Bangla Airlines, Saudia, and Riyadh Air, have cancelled or suspended flights. Biman Bangladesh Airlines reported that 3,431 passengers were unable to reach their destinations. To mitigate the impact, the airline is attempting to rebook passengers on flights to Dammam and Madinah at no extra cost, prioritizing those at risk of visa expiration.
US-Bangla Airlines has cancelled its Dhaka-Riyadh-Dhaka route flights through October 21. Authorities have advised passengers not to proceed to the airport until new schedules are confirmed and to contact airline sales counters or travel agencies for updates.
