Riyadh and Dubai announce major transport infrastructure expansions

Riyadh is expanding its metro fleet and transport infrastructure to accommodate a growing population. Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al-Sultan, chief executive of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, announced that contracts have been signed to purchase 94 additional trains, bringing the total fleet to 277. The expansion includes extending the Red Line toward Diriyah with five new stations to increase passenger capacity.

In addition to the metro, Riyadh plans to develop approximately 700 kilometres of major roads, including new bridges, tunnels, and intersections. The city's public transport network has already recorded approximately 500 million passenger journeys, with over 300 million occurring on the Metro.

In Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) reported the completion of 117 projects last year, valued at AED 3.7 billion. These projects focused on road, bridge, and tunnel upgrades to improve traffic flow and connectivity. The RTA is currently working on 164 strategic projects with a combined value of AED 35.3 billion, aimed at further developing the emirate's road and transport infrastructure.
