Riyadh Art installs sculptures by late artist Mohammed Al-Saleem

The Riyadh Art program, a project of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, has announced the permanent installation of six sculptures by the late Saudi artist Mohammed Al-Saleem. These works, which date back to the 1980s, were originally created for a public art competition in Riyadh but remained in the artist's studio for decades before being acquired by the Royal Commission.

The sculptures—including ‘The Pentagonal Thorn’, ‘Balcony’, ‘The Ball’, ‘Triangles’, ‘Flower Bud’, and ‘The Crescents’—have been installed at the West Station on the Orange Line of the Riyadh Metro network. A seventh piece, ‘The Spiral Fountain’, is planned for future installation. The works were restored under the supervision of the artist's daughter, Najla Mohammed Al-Saleem.

Al-Saleem’s abstract style draws inspiration from the desert environment, Najdi architecture, geometric shapes, and astronomical symbols, reflecting Saudi Arabia's local identity and cultural heritage.
