Riyadh opens new Thumamah Road bridge
The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has opened the new Thumamah Road bridge at its intersection with Prince Mohammed bin Salman Road. The bridge was opened to traffic at 6:00 a.m. on Friday, October 9, following approximately six months of construction that began on April 1, 2026.
The structure is approximately 400 meters long and 20 meters wide, featuring six main lanes (three in each direction) and four service lanes. The project involved the precision installation of structural components weighing over 3,200 tonnes in a high-density area adjacent to Riyadh Metro pillars. The construction was completed without reported injuries or accidents.
This project is part of a larger 24-kilometer redevelopment of the Thumamah Road corridor, which includes 17 bridges, 10 tunnels, and three intersections. The initiative aims to improve connectivity between the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) and surrounding residential and commercial areas, while separating through traffic from local traffic to enhance efficiency.
