Riyadh schools shift to remote learning for one week

Schools in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, have transitioned to remote learning for one week following a sudden directive from authorities. Parents reported receiving last-minute notifications via email and SMS, though no official reason for the closure was provided by the Ministry of Education.

The decision follows a surge in regional tensions and recent security incidents. On Saturday, the Saudi-led coalition announced it had intercepted and destroyed two drones targeting the capital and ballistic missiles aimed at Khamis Mushait in the southwest. These attacks are part of an escalation in hostilities by the Iran-backed Houthi movement in Yemen, which has seen renewed conflict since July.

The UN Security Council has previously condemned Houthi attacks for causing civilian casualties, including women and children. To facilitate remote education, the Ministry of Education has mandated the use of the 'Medreseti' platform.
