Rize resident harvests urban grass for livestock fodder

Zeynep Cengiz, a resident of Rize who makes her living through livestock and agriculture, has been harvesting grass from urban green spaces in the city center to provide fodder for her animals.

In the Ekrem Orhon neighborhood of central Rize, Cengiz uses a scythe to cut grass in areas surrounded by roads, often acting before municipal teams arrive. This practice allows her to stockpile food for her livestock while simultaneously reducing the maintenance burden on the local municipality. Cengiz, originally from Trabzon, noted that while she also engages in tea production, livestock farming is a multi-generational family profession. She mentioned that the work can be difficult, as stones hidden in the grass occasionally damage her tools.
