Rize tourism faces potential 50% decline amid lack of strategic planning
Journalist Aytekin Kalender has raised alarms regarding the state of tourism in Rize, Turkey, reporting claims from industry professionals that some businesses have experienced losses of up to 50% compared to previous years.
Kalender criticizes the region for lacking a long-term strategic roadmap, noting the absence of 10, 25, or 50-year plans to guide development. He argues that the city fails to provide clear guidance to visitors regarding itineraries, local gastronomy, and activities, stating, “A city without a route has no right to expect direction from a tourist.”
Furthermore, the report highlights the perceived failure of the “Rizedesin” digital tourism application launched by the Rize Governorship. Kalender points to low download numbers and minimal social media engagement as evidence that the digital initiative is not effectively reaching tourists or providing meaningful content.
