RJ Godfrey awaits eligibility ruling for Arizona basketball

Arizona basketball player RJ Godfrey is currently awaiting a legal resolution regarding his collegiate eligibility. Godfrey, a transfer from Clemson, is among many athletes seeking an extra year of competition following changes to NCAA eligibility rules.

The dispute stems from the NCAA’s ‘5 for 5’ policy, which allows five years of competition over a five-year period but did not grandfather in the high school class of 2022. This omission led to various lawsuits, including one in Georgia where Godfrey served as a plaintiff. While a federal judge in Colorado previously granted blanket eligibility to 2022 graduates, that ruling was stayed following an NCAA appeal.

Godfrey has joined the University of Arizona program and has been cleared to practice, but he remains unable to participate in games until his status is finalized. He recently participated in a team trip to Lithuania, though he did not play in the exhibition matches.
