RKVV Meerburg mourns death of former goalkeeper Mark Pels
The football club RKVV Meerburg is mourning the death of 41-year-old former goalkeeper Mark Pels, who died following a traffic accident involving a truck near Hazerswoude. Pels was a highly regarded member of the club’s first team, notably playing a key role in the team’s promotion to the second class during the 2011-2012 season.
This loss marks the fourth death within the club in less than a year. Previous losses include youth member Pim van Aalderen, former honorary chairman and former alderman Rob Hogeneist, and Alex. Club chairman Hennie Müller expressed that the community is deeply affected, describing Pels as a valued teammate and a true team player both on and off the field.
