RM of BTS co-curates landmark art exhibition at SFMOMA

Kim Namjoon, known professionally as RM of the K-pop group BTS, has co-curated a major exhibition at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) titled ‘RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me’. The exhibition, which opened on October 3 and runs through February 7, 2027, features nearly 200 modern and contemporary artworks.

The showcase brings together 142 pieces from RM’s private collection—including paintings, calligraphy, sculpture, and a Pokémon animation cel—alongside 36 selections from the museum’s permanent holdings. The collection highlights Korean modernists such as Yun Hyong-keun, Chang Ucchin, and Kim Whanki, placed in dialogue with international artists like Mark Rothko, Yves Klein, and Georgia O’Keeffe.

The exhibition has seen significant commercial success, with advance ticket sales reported to be six times higher than any previous exhibition at the institution, totaling over 66,000 tickets sold. The project marks RM’s first collaboration as an exhibition co-curator, working alongside SFMOMA’s América Castillo and Hyoeun Kim.
