RMDSZ awaits presidential nominee before deciding on Romanian government support

The Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSZ) has declined to take a definitive stance on supporting a future government until President Nicușor Dan names a prime ministerial candidate. Botond Csoma, the RMDSZ parliamentary group leader, stated that the alliance's joint candidate for prime minister remains Siegfried Mureșan, supported by the National Liberal Party (PNL) and the Save Romania Union (USR).

Csoma noted that if the President appoints someone other than Mureșan, the RMDSZ will need to analyze the new situation. He expressed concerns regarding the potential appointment of an independent, non-partisan prime minister, questioning such a leader's authority in a complex coalition or minority government setting.

A key priority for the RMDSZ is to avoid being politically aligned with the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR). While the party is not ruling out voting to install a cabinet that excludes AUR, they indicated they might choose not to participate in the government itself. The political impasse has left Romania without a fully functional government for four months.
