Rémy Daillet sentenced to six years for kidnapping and coup plot

The Paris Criminal Court has sentenced Rémy Daillet to six years in prison for his complicity in the 2021 kidnapping of a young girl named Mia in the Vosges region and for involvement in a terrorist criminal conspiracy.

Daillet, a 60-year-old conspiracy theorist and former MoDem official, was accused of using his platform to influence others to kidnap children placed in state care. The prosecution argued that the kidnapping was intended to serve as a catalyst for a far-right plot to overthrow the French government, a plan Daillet had theorized in videos during the Covid-19 pandemic.

While the defense argued that the charges were based primarily on speech rather than direct action, the court found Daillet guilty of criminal association. He was being judged alongside 14 co-defendants involved in the conspiracy.
