Rémy Descamps discusses injury impact on Olympique Lyonnais goalkeeper status
Olympique Lyonnais goalkeeper Rémy Descamps has spoken about how an injury during the previous season impacted his position within the squad. The 30-year-old, who joined the club in August 2024, believes he had been performing well enough to challenge for the starting role following the departure of Lucas Perri.
Descamps noted that he had been convincing manager Paulo Fonseca and maintaining his place even after the arrival of Dominik Greif. However, a finger injury sustained during a match against Rennes halted his momentum. Descamps stated, “Maybe it would have happened differently without this setback,” suggesting the injury cost him the opportunity to secure the number one spot permanently.
Currently serving as the second-choice goalkeeper behind Greif, Descamps is expected to see playing time in the Coupe de France and the Europa League, including upcoming opportunities to demonstrate his capabilities to the coaching staff.
