Şırnak expands earthquake monitoring and preparedness
Authorities in Şırnak are expanding the region's earthquake monitoring capabilities. As part of the 2026 investment program, AFAD has decided to establish a new earthquake recording station in the İnceler neighborhood of the Uludere district. This addition will bring the total number of seismic observation stations in Şırnak to seven, following the recent addition of three stations in İdil, Silopi, and Beytüşşebap.
In addition to infrastructure expansion, disaster preparedness efforts are underway. The Şırnak 112 Emergency Call Center and AFAD recently conducted earthquake awareness training and evacuation drills for staff. The training included practical applications of the ‘Drop–Cover–Hold On’ technique and safe building evacuation procedures to improve institutional coordination and response capacity during seismic events.
