Rønne Svømmeklub warns of budget cut impacts on Bornholm youth
Rønne Svømmeklub has expressed concerns regarding proposed budget cuts in the Bornholm Regional Municipality's 2027 budget. The club warns that reducing travel subsidies could increase costs for families, as swimmers must travel to mainland Denmark approximately 10 times a year for championships and development meets.
The club emphasizes that Bornholm's geography makes these subsidies a necessity for ensuring local youth can compete on equal terms with swimmers from other parts of the country. Additionally, the proposed savings affect funding for the training of leaders, teachers, and instructors. The club currently trains about 10 new instructors and officials annually to combat the loss of volunteers as young people move away from the island for education.
