Río Bravo water commission dispute follows state control ruling

A political dispute has emerged in Río Bravo, Tamaulipas, following a decision by the Tamaulipas Congress to maintain state control over the municipal water and sewage commission, COMAPA. The Permanent Deputation approved a ruling to deny the municipality's request for operational, administrative, and financial control, citing the local government's lack of technical and financial capacity to manage the organism.

Río Bravo Mayor Miguel Ángel Almaraz Maldonado has criticized the decision, accusing the state administration of providing poor quality water to residents and alleging political motives behind the refusal to transfer control. The mayor has threatened to take the matter to the Supreme Court.

In response, State Deputy Francisca Castro Armenta defended the legislative decision, arguing that the state should retain oversight. She stated that recent water supply and quality issues were due to drought and technical failures in conduction channels that have since been addressed. Castro Armenta urged a cautious evaluation of the municipal administration's overall performance before considering any transfer of authority.
