Río Colorado Bridge protesters demand clarity on trust funds
Social leader and professor Petra Santos Ortiz led a mobilization at the Río Colorado Bridge toll booth to demand clarity regarding the future of the Río Colorado Bridge Trust. Protesters occupied the facilities but ensured that vehicle traffic remained unobstructed during the demonstration.
The protest stems from uncertainty surrounding the conclusion of the trust's current term. Citizens are seeking a public definition from the State Government on whether the current administration of bridge-generated resources will continue, be modified, or be replaced by a new scheme. The movement aims to ensure that funds generated by the bridge remain for the benefit of regional municipalities.
Santos Ortiz reported that the movement has collected over 10,000 signatures to present to state authorities. However, she noted difficulties in securing a meeting with Governor Alfonso Durazo despite requests made through the Chief of the Executive Office, Paulina Ocaña.
