Río Gallegos blood bank faces supply shortages
The Blood Bank of the Hospital Regional Río Gallegos in Santa Cruz is facing difficulties maintaining the supply of blood components due to a recent decrease in the number of donors. Javier Alejandro Gómez, a specialist in Hemotherapy and head of the technical staff, reported that while operations continue normally, the shortage of supplies is creating significant challenges for the facility.
The blood bank serves as the sole provider for both public hospitals and private clinics across the central and southern regions of Santa Cruz, covering an area from Puerto San Julián to Río Turbio. Officials are currently reaching out to the community through promotion and secretarial efforts to encourage new and regular voluntary donors to replenish essential reserves needed for daily transfusions and emergencies.
