Río Gallegos launches driving license program for women
The Municipality of Río Gallegos has launched a new phase of the ‘Mi Primera Licencia’ program, a decentralized initiative designed to help women in the San Benito neighborhood and surrounding areas obtain their first national driving licenses.
The program was established in response to requests from local residents who faced difficulties traveling to the city center to complete administrative procedures. Many women reported using family vehicles only within their immediate neighborhoods for tasks such as school runs and grocery shopping due to the lack of proper documentation and fear of traffic controls.
In the initial session held at Cenin 7, over 120 women participated in technical briefings regarding road safety and regulations. The initiative has seen high demand, with more than 300 women registered to participate in staggered sessions over the coming Saturdays. The program involves coordination with the National Road Safety Agency to provide training and evaluation directly within the community.
