Río Grande advances environmental management and recycling initiatives
Río Grande is advancing local environmental management through new infrastructure and conservation projects. In November, the city will inaugurate its first classified waste station, a private initiative led by Plásticos de la Isla Grande S. A. (PIGSA) with municipal support. The facility will allow residents to voluntarily drop off separated dry materials for recovery, transformation, and recycling into new products.
Additionally, the municipality has reported progress on the AcBio Project, which focuses on strengthening environmental management and ecosystem conservation. Key developments include the updated Management Plan for Laguna de los Patos and the implementation of social and nature mapping tools to improve urban planning. These efforts involve collaboration between local government, ICLEI, and various environmental organizations to address challenges such as energy transition and ecosystem protection.
