Río Grande advances Germán Asencio Agroexperimental Farm
The Municipality of Río Grande is advancing infrastructure and renovation work at the Germán Asencio Agroexperimental Farm in the Ex Apymema neighborhood. The facility is designed for agricultural research, experimentation, training, and the transfer of knowledge regarding food production tailored to the specific climatic conditions of Tierra del Fuego.
In its initial phase, the farm will focus on fruit, vegetable, and poultry production through both open-air and covered methods. Planned crops include raspberries, blackberries, currants, gooseberries, potatoes, onions, carrots, and garlic. A notable feature will be the establishment of the first strawberry seedling nursery in Tierra del Fuego, developed in coordination with RG Activa to support local producers.
In collaboration with INTA, the site will also conduct trials on forage varieties and explore advanced techniques such as hydroponics and aquaponics. The farm will serve a demonstrative function, providing data to strengthen the local productive sector and integrating with municipal programs, including serving as a distribution point for the RGA Agroproductiva program.
