Río Grande implements digital hackathon and community welfare programs
The Municipality of Río Grande has implemented several community-focused initiatives. In its fifth consecutive year, the Digital Hackathon brought together 17 teams of students and teachers at the Espacio Tecnológico. Participants worked to develop digital prototypes designed to solve specific problems within their schools, neighborhoods, and the broader city. The program, organized by the Secretaría de Gestión Ciudadana, included mentorship from over ten professionals to help transform ideas into viable technological solutions.
In addition to technological development, the city conducted a veterinary health campaign to promote responsible pet ownership. During the operation, the Dirección de Servicios Veterinarios administered 199 rabies vaccines—157 for dogs and 42 for cats—and performed microchipping on 73 dogs to facilitate identification and registration.
Furthermore, the Río Grande City Council approved the “Apagá para Conectar” program. This initiative aims to encourage digital disconnection by creating physical spaces for face-to-face social interaction and recreational activities, such as painting, weaving, and conversation, to promote mental health and stronger interpersonal bonds.
