Río Grande Council seeks gas tariff protections for Tierra del Fuego
The Deliberative Council of Río Grande has approved a communication project requesting that the Argentine national government and the National Regulator of Gas and Electricity (ENReGE) take measures to prevent gas bill increases for residents of Tierra del Fuego.
Promoted by Councilors Guadalupe Zamora and Matías Löffler, the initiative warns that recent modifications to the ‘Zona Fría’ (Cold Zone) Regime could neutralize historical economic benefits for local households. Although the province remains formally included in the special regime, the council argues that changes in its application must ensure effective economic protection on final utility bills.
The proposal requests specific regulations and bonuses to preserve tariff differentials suited to the province's extreme climate. It also calls for mechanisms to prevent increases in transport, distribution, or fixed charges from eroding benefits, and asks for public reports detailing the estimated impact of the new regime before implementation. Special consideration is requested for retirees, pensioners, people with disabilities, and low-income households.
