Río Grande launches leukemia detection and bone marrow donor program
The Municipality of Río Grande has launched a new program focused on the early detection of leukemias and the recruitment of bone marrow donors. The initiative aims to strengthen primary care by training health professionals at municipal centers to recognize early warning signs of leukemia, particularly in children, to ensure rapid specialist referrals.
In collaboration with INCUCAI, the program also seeks to expand the National Registry of Hematopoietic Progenitor Cell Donors. To facilitate participation, the municipality will introduce a simple oral swab method for registration, alongside traditional blood extractions. The program was inspired by a local family's experience and has been declared a matter of interest by the Deliberative Council.
