Río Negro court limits salary deductions for police officer

A labor court in General Roca, Río Negro, has issued an injunction ordering the provincial government to limit voluntary salary deductions for a police officer to 33% of her income.

The officer, who is the sole provider for her household and cares for a daughter with specific medical needs, had seen nearly 72% of her net earnings withheld due to various financial obligations. The court ruled that the excessive deductions threatened the family's access to basic necessities and essential medical treatments.

In its decision, the court emphasized the ‘alimentary character’ of wages, citing the National Constitution and International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention 95, which protect the essential nature of monthly earnings for subsistence.
