Río Negro expands educational assessment program to 35,000 students

The Ministry of Education and Human Rights of Río Negro has expanded its 'Río Negro Explora' program, a provincial initiative designed to measure student learning. This year, the program has increased its scope to include 5th-grade students and has introduced mathematics evaluations for the first time, moving beyond its previous focus on language skills.

The current phase of the program covers approximately 35,000 students across the province. According to Marcela Strahl, General Director of Education, the inclusion of mathematics and problem-solving aims to provide a real situational data set to inform and improve educational policies. The program is part of the Jurisdictional Strategic Literacy Plan, which seeks to strengthen reading, writing, and mathematical reasoning.

Following the analysis of the June evaluation data, a second evaluative stage will be implemented. The program has grown steadily since its 2024 launch, which initially targeted 1st and 2nd graders, and is scheduled to expand into secondary education by 2026.
