Río Negro Governor condemns union intimidation of legislators
Río Negro Governor Alberto Weretilneck has condemned the harassment and intimidation of legislators and officials by members of the UNTER teachers' union. The incidents occurred following a legislative session in Viedma where lawmakers approved a reform allowing state workers to freely choose their health insurance provider.
During the session, legislators and the president of IPROSS, Ivana Porro, reportedly faced hostility from union leaders. The tension escalated after the session when legislator Juan Murillo reported being surrounded, insulted, and intimidated by UNTER officials at a service station in Viedma. The encounter was recorded and shared on social media platforms linked to the union.
Weretilneck described the behavior as “antidemocratic” and stated that “the mob and the public shaming are inadmissible in Argentina today.” He called on the leadership of UNTER to take responsibility for these actions, emphasizing that union representation does not grant the right to intimidate elected representatives.
