Río Negro secures USD 6 million agreement for INVAP nuclear project

Río Negro Governor Alberto Weretilneck has secured approval from Buenos Aires Governor Axel Kicillof for a USD 6 million financial operation involving the state-owned company INVAP. The agreement provides a guarantee to the Banco de la Provincia de Buenos Aires (BAPRO) until May 31, 2030, to support a technological update for the NUR nuclear reactor in Algeria.

The guarantee is backed by Río Negro's resources from national tax participation and hydrocarbon royalties. Despite the political differences between Weretilneck, an ally of Javier Milei, and Kicillof, an opposition leader, the strategic nature of Argentina's nuclear industry facilitated the agreement. BAPRO has a history of providing international guarantees for Argentine nuclear maintenance and construction projects in Algeria.
