Road closures and damage reported in coastal Ecuador provinces
Multiple provinces along the Ecuadorian coast are experiencing significant road disruptions due to sinkholes, collapses, and landslides. As of October 29, 2026, El Oro, Los Ríos, Manabí, Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, and Esmeraldas report sections where only a single lane is operational, requiring drivers to proceed with caution.
Specific issues include the closure of the Babahoyo lateral pass at the Gemelos bridges on the E25 highway. In El Oro, various sections of the E25, E50, and E585 highways are affected by culvert collapses, sinkholes, and partial road loss. In the Quevedo Ring Road, traffic is currently under controlled passage. Travelers are advised to plan ahead and use alternative routes to avoid delays during the upcoming November holiday period.
