Road closures planned in Monmouthshire and Forest of Dean
Monmouthshire County Council will close a 115‑metre section of the R4 road near Bettws from 10 August until 18 September to repair a highway retaining wall, with a signed diversion via the R5, A465 and other routes. Short‑term closures are also scheduled in Penperlleni (65 metres of Plough Road, 10‑12 August) and on a 95‑metre stretch of Ancient Road in Llanover on 31 July, with limited on‑site access management. Council Head of Neighbourhood Services Carl Touhig said access for properties directly fronting the closures will be maintained.
Gloucestershire County Council has issued Temporary Traffic Orders for a series of closures across the Forest of Dean in late July and August. Works include a 25‑metre closure of Sneyd Wood Road in Cinderford on 27 July, a three‑day closure of Chapel Hill in Aylburton (5‑7 August) for Severn Trent Water, drainage upgrades on Bailey Lane in Hewelsfield (3‑5 August) and Brockweir, and closures of Driffield Road in Lydney (5 August) and Naas Lane (17‑18 August) for level‑crossing maintenance. Additional utility work will close Belmont Road in Hewelsfield and Brockweir (17‑19 August). All sites will have signed diversions and retain pedestrian and emergency access.
