Three injured, including child, in Vibo‑Valentia to Tropea highway crash
A frontal collision occurred around 12:30 on provincial road SP 17 that links Vibo Valentia and Tropea. A Citroën C3 and a Peugeot 406 SW struck each other head‑on near the Aeroporto area. Three people were injured: a woman trapped in the Citroën, a child who was taken in precautionary condition to the hospital in Catanzaro, and a second minor who escaped unharmed. Firefighters had to cut the Citroën’s body with a grinder to free the trapped driver. The injured were transferred to the Jazzolino hospital in Vibo Valentia and to Catanzaro. Police, Carabinieri, local authorities and emergency‑medical services attended the scene, secured the area and began investigations into the cause of the crash, which remains under inquiry.
Road traffic on SP 17 was temporarily halted, causing significant delays while the wreckage was cleared and the road made safe again.
