Road damage and sinkholes reported in Sri Ganganagar and Kanpur

Heavy monsoon rains and poor drainage systems have caused significant road damage and sinkholes across multiple regions in India, specifically in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, and Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

In Sri Ganganagar, the receding monsoon waters have left behind deep potholes and broken surfaces on both main roads and residential streets. The damage, attributed to waterlogging and sewage overflows, has created hazardous conditions for commuters, particularly two-wheeler riders and pedestrians. Residents have raised concerns regarding the quality of road construction as the asphalt and cement layers have eroded.

In Kanpur, several incidents of road subsidence have been reported. A major sinkhole measuring approximately 18 feet deep and 3 meters wide appeared on the Jajmau-Circuit House Road following heavy rainfall. Other areas, including the Jajmau VIP Road, have experienced recurring subsidence, with some sections collapsing multiple times within a single month. These incidents have prompted questions regarding the integrity of underground pipelines and the effectiveness of the city's drainage infrastructure.
