Road Dogg (Brian James) quits WWE, calls company a money grab

Brian “Road Dogg” James, a former WWE Hall of Famer and long‑time member of the creative team, announced his resignation in March 2026. In an interview with Busted Open Radio he said he was no longer having fun and felt the promotion had become “a money grab.”

James explained that the workload had become onerous, that he stayed out of fear of unemployment, and cited personal challenges including past drug addiction and financial mismanagement. He recounted his wife’s comment about living in a tent, which prompted his decision to leave.

The veteran also reflected on WWE’s direction, stating, “The booking used to be about wrestling; now everything is decided by the money.” His departure marks the end of a tenure that began with backstage roles in 2011 and included a Hall of Fame induction in 2019.
