Road fatalities in Ciudad Juárez spur safety council and highlight ongoing accidents

In the first five months of 2026, Ciudad Juárez recorded more than 2,600 traffic incidents that caused 31 deaths, according to municipal safety data. The city’s authorities responded by creating a citizen‑led Consultative Council on Mobility and Road Safety, composed of six civil‑society representatives, municipal officials, and three observers from the ombudsman, human‑rights office and transparency coordination. Council member Nayade Cruz Ramos noted, "From January to May 2026 there have been 2,605 road accidents; 27 resulted in deaths."

Separate reports from June describe a separate crash in which a motorcyclist delivering for a digital platform was knocked down by a van on the intersection of Avenida 16 de Septiembre and Calle Elio. The rider suffered multiple injuries, received first aid from Red Cross paramedics and was taken to a nearby hospital. Police secured the scene and began an investigation into the cause of the collision.
