Road fatalities increase in Girona province
Road fatalities in the Girona province have increased by 47 percent during the first ten months of the year, according to provisional data from the Servei Català de Trànsit (SCT). This trend contrasts with the rest of Catalonia, where mortality rates in Barcelona, Tarragona, and Lleida have decreased.
Between January and October, 28 people died in interurban road accidents within the Girona demarcation, nine more than the same period in 2025. The increase was particularly sharp in October, which saw five more deaths than in September. The regions of Alt Empordà and La Selva recorded the highest numbers, with nine deaths each, accounting for 64 percent of the total fatalities in the province.
In a separate incident in Barcelona, a driver died following a head-on collision between a car and an SUV on the C-55 highway in Olesa de Montserrat. Two other people were injured in the crash and transported to hospitals in Martorell and Sant Joan Despí. Authorities are investigating the causes of the accident.
