Road fatalities rise in Albacete and Salta
Traffic fatalities are seeing a significant increase in both Albacete, Spain, and Salta, Argentina, during 2026.
In Albacete, 19 people have died in road accidents so far this year, surpassing the 13 deaths recorded throughout all of 2025. Data indicates that while interurban roads account for 38% of accidents with victims, they represent 69% of all fatalities. Most deaths on these routes occurred on conventional roads rather than highways. Local authorities, including the Traffic and Road Safety Commission, are planning increased surveillance and awareness campaigns to combat driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
In Salta, the death toll from road accidents has reached 104 for 2026. Recent incidents include a collision between a car and a pickup truck on Provincial Route 33 in El Carril, which killed a 60-year-old man, and a collision involving a 70-year-old motorcyclist on Juan Domingo Perón Avenue in Salta Capital. Criminalistics and road safety teams are investigating the causes of these accidents.
