Road fatalities rise in San Juan and Salta provinces
Road fatalities have seen a significant rise in several Argentine provinces. In San Juan, the number of road deaths has already exceeded the total recorded in the previous year. While the overall frequency of accidents has decreased, the severity of incidents has increased. Motorcyclists are the most vulnerable group, accounting for nearly 50% of the fatalities in the province. Experts attribute this trend to human error, such as speeding and weaving through traffic, as well as a lack of road safety education and deteriorating infrastructure.
In Salta, road accidents have claimed 94 lives so far this year. More than half of these victims, totaling 53 individuals, were motorcyclists. Recent incidents include a fatal crash in Aguaray involving an 18-year-old driver and a 17-year-old passenger, and a collision in Salta capital where a vehicle struck two pedestrians, leading to a delayed fatality due to medical complications.
