Road safety agencies launch holiday travel campaigns in Quebec and France
The Sûreté du Québec announced intensified patrols on roads, waterways and trails during the second week of the construction holidays, warning that the period historically sees a high number of fatal collisions. Last year, the province recorded 38 deaths in 30 crashes, the worst in a decade, and eight deaths have already been reported this year. Police urge motorists and recreational users to follow safety rules, wear helmets on off‑road vehicles and use personal flotation devices on the water.
In France, VINCI Autoroutes prepared for an exceptionally dense traffic flow during the first weekend of August, deploying a multi‑media traffic information campaign and on‑site safety actions. The company posted forecast videos on its YouTube channel and shared updates via X and Facebook, while promoting fire‑risk alerts and the #StopMégots initiative against discarded cigarette butts. A visual campaign titled “When will you hit?” highlighted the dangers of driver fatigue and distracted driving, with demonstration vehicles displayed at toll stations to reinforce safety messages.
