Road safety enforcement and regulations intensify in Spain, Paraguay, and Guatemala

Various regions are implementing new road safety measures and conducting intensive traffic enforcement campaigns.

In Spain, the Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) has launched a nationwide campaign to combat driving distractions, specifically targeting mobile phone use, GPS manipulation, and eating while driving. Local police in cities such as Cuenca, Almansa, Vilagarcía, and León are participating in these controls, which run through October 11. Additionally, new regulations for electric scooters (VMP) are being enforced in Benavente and Puente Genil, focusing on requirements such as mandatory helmets, age limits, insurance, and registration.

In Paraguay, data from the Agencia Nacional de Tránsito y Seguridad Vial (ANTSV) indicates that human error accounts for 71.2% of road accidents, highlighting a need for improved driver education and behavioral changes.

In Guatemala, the Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing reported that Provial responded to 45 traffic incidents in a single week, including 14 collisions and four fatalities, primarily occurring on the CA-9 Norte route.
