Road safety campaigns launched in Uruguay and Honduras

Authorities in Uruguay and Honduras have launched new road safety initiatives aimed at reducing traffic accidents and promoting responsible driving behavior.

In Lavalleja, Uruguay, the local government introduced the ‘Ponete en modo seguro’ campaign. The initiative includes increased monitoring through a centralized camera system and the installation of eight new cameras in areas such as the Rambla and Cerro Artigas. Officials noted that the region has already seen a 46% decrease in traffic fatalities and a 16.5% reduction in overall accidents.

In Honduras, the National Police, through the National Directorate of Roads and Transport (DNVT), has partnered with the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH) for the ‘Con Educación Vial Avanzamos Juntos’ campaign. This strategic alliance focuses on public awareness regarding traffic laws, seatbelt and helmet use, and the dangers of speeding and mobile phone use while driving. The program also includes academic components, such as virtual courses and university diplomas, to strengthen technical and legal knowledge in road safety.
