Road Safety Council urges parents to monitor children's electric scooter use
The Road Safety Council, in collaboration with Odense University Hospital and insurance company Alm. Brand, is calling on parents to take responsibility for their children's use of electric scooters. Authorities report that many children and adolescents are engaging in dangerous and illegal riding practices, including using scooters that have been tuned to exceed the legal speed limit of 20 km/h.
Regulations require riders to be at least 15 years old when riding without an adult, and helmets are mandatory for all ages. Despite these rules, social media contains numerous videos providing tips on how to modify scooters for higher speeds and showcasing hazardous riding behavior. Officials note that children as young as nine are being encountered on scooters in traffic, leading to serious injuries and hospitalizations.
